Apparently, tough time awaits erring members of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), recently expelled for anti-association activities, after repeated warnings and efforts by the NECOM to make them embrace peace.
Addressing Journalists during a press conference in Lagos, the National Vice President of ANLCA, Dr Kayode Farinto, said openly that only the National President of the Association, Hon. Tony Iju Nwabunike, can pave the way for them to return.
Responding to questions on how this can be done, Dr Farinto explained; “The National President can do this by convening National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to reconsider their membership with very stringent conditions.”
Speaking further, Farinto emphasised that ANLCA’s Constitution is sacrosanct and nothing can change it. He maintained that expulsion imposed on defaulting members was a decision taken by NEC in line with the Association’s Constitution”.
His assertions : “The ANLCA NEC comprises of the National Executive Council ( NECOM), the President and his National Executives, all the chapter Executives and National Committees.
“Therefore, it is the NEC that expelled these members. We have seen alleged Board members administering oath of office to chapter Executives who are not recognised by ANLCA’s Constitution. Such can be treated as a criminal offence because it is against our Constitution.
” For instance, the National President has made several attempts to resolve this problem, he even set up a committee with their representatives as members, but all diplomatic efforts failed. People who claimed they want peace would not be dragging us to Police stations; or instituting numerous court cases against us. Is that the way to embrace peace ?.
Farinto stressed that the expelled individuals are no longer members of ANLCA, warning that members of the public must not have dealings with them on behalf of the Association.”
