Anti-smuggling onslaught : Seme Customs intercepts 3,186 parcels of cannabis sativa concealed in sand truck

Apparently, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Seme Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Bello Jibo, and his team are giving smugglers a tough time, at the border between Nigeria and Benin Republic through their anti-smuggling onslaught.

This was evidence in the seizure of 3,186 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, made by the team through intelligence.

Most outstanding are the ingenuity and doggedness of the officers in uncovering the dangerous drugs, despite the fact that the items were concealed in Sand Truck by smugglers, in a deliberate attempt to escape security checks.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Command, ASC1 HUSSAINI ABDULLAHI, who issued official press statement on behalf of the CAC, disclosed that the prohibited items with street value of N91,488,977 were Intercepted along Seme-Badagry Expressway.

The PRO informed ; “The seizure was made through credible intelligence report. After thorough examination, the Sand Truck was found to contain 41 sacks, making 3,186 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, worth N91,488,977”.

In the same vein, Comptroller Jibo, explained that his Command is working in tandem with the policy thrust of CGC Hameed Ali and the top Customs management to provide quality and professional service delivery for greater economic growth.

Comptroller Jibo, who applauded his officers for their gallantry efforts in Intercepting the hard drugs, urged them to remain hard-working and resilient, in order to raise the tempo of anti-smuggling operations of Seme Command.

The CAC also stressed the need for officers to maintain a cordial working synergy with other sister agencies, as well as border communities, to ensure unity of purpose at all times.

Recall that Seme Area Command under the leadership of Comptroller Jibo, has made impressive performance in revenue collection, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations.

For instance, the Command generated over N431,160,300.72, (approximately N431.2million revenue for the Federal Government from January to early June 2021. The Command also made seizures worth over N409.8million in Duty Paid Value (DPV), for the same under.

That was not all.
The Command processed and exited many trucks for export. Such as, ETLS – 1059; EXPORT – 2487; IMPORT/BAGGAGE – 179; even as a total of 713 declarations were captured and processed within the same period, These achievements are clear indications that the border is fully operational.
