*As Comptroller Swomen harps on honest declaration

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command,
Comptroller Hammi Swomen, has said that his Command remains committed to trade facilitation and more revenue collection for the Federal Government to grow the nation’s economy.
Comptroller Swomen, made this known when briefing Journalists last week, on activities of the Command in the first quarter of 2021.
He called on importers, clearing agents and all maritime traders to always make honest declaration, in order to enhance trade facilitation and appropriate payment of Import duty to government.
Speaking further, the CAC frowned at the issue of concealment by some traders, even as he displayed seizures of Five (5) containers worth over N55.7 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV), made by his Command within the period under review.
The items seized include ;
2,655 pieces of used tyres, concealed with two vehicles; one used Toyota Carina E 2000 model & one Mazda 323 2004 model), all with DPV of N21.6million. 2,772 kegs of Vegetable oil with DPV of N28.7million.
Most spectacular was the seizure of
16,920 bottles of expired table water, with DPV of N5.5million.
Also, the Command generated over N7.9 billion as Customs duty and other charges from January to March 2021.
