Apparently, illicit drugs smugglers most be counting their losses by now, as the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘D’ Bauchi, handed over Cannabis Sativa, with street value of over N30million to NDLEA Command in the State.
The Customs boss of the Unit, Adesanmi Omiye, formally handed over large quantities of the dangerous drugs yesterday.
Omiye disclosed that the seized drugs were concealed in 12 sacks, even as two suspects have been arrested in connection with the items.
Speaking further, he revealed that the suspects were apprehended along Adamawa Road axis through intelligence.
His explanation :
“The handing over of these seized items to NDLEA becomes necessary, because the Service is aware that NDLEA is a federal agency, established and saddled with the responsibilities of eliminating the growing, cultivating, processing, selling and trafficking of hard drugs.
“As such, while investigation continues to unravel the syndicates behind this illegal act, we are handing over the 12 sacks of seized marijuana and the two suspects to NDLEA for thorough investigation.
“We appeal to members of the public, to report any suspicious movement.”
He stressed :
“The Service would not relent in its efforts to get rid of all prohibited items, in order to ensure sanity in the economic environment.
“The Unit is highly committed to enforcing a ban on smuggling of contraband in the country.”
More so, in his response, the Commander of Metropolis Operations, NDLEA in Bauchi, Malam Nasiru Modi, applauded Customs in complementing the efforts of NDLEA in its compaigns against illicit drugs smuggling in the State.
He promised to ensure proper investigation into the matter, emphasising that NDLEA would continue to partner with Customs and others relevant agencies in tackling drugs related issues in the State.
