Electronic Call-Up System: NPA talks tough

* Says no compliance, no access to ports

In a bid to tackle traffic gridlock on ports access roads, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has announced commencement of Electronic Truck ,Eto, Call-Up System.

The Assistant General Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communications of NPA, Mr Ibrahim Nasiru, disclosed this in a press statement signed and made available to reporters.

According to him, the ‘Electronic Call-Up System’ is designed to manage movement of truck gaining access to Lagos Ports Complex, TinCan Island and Apapa ports.

This, he explained will tackle congestion on Port access roads.

He called for cooperation of all port users to ensure adequate implementation, warning that non-compliance to the system and its guidelines will result in denial of access into the Ports, impounding of trucks and withdrawal of operating licenses.

The press statement emphasised,
“The management of NPA is soliciting the cooperation of transporters, truck drivers, cargo owners, clearing agents, shipping companies and all port users in the implementation of the project, which will bring order and sanity to ports access roads”.

More follows, “NPA is pleased to announce commencement of the Electronic Truck call-up system, designed for management of truck movement and access to and from the Lagos Ports Complex.

“As such, all trucks doing business at the ports will be required to park at appropriate approved truck parks, until they are called up into the ports through the Eto app.

“The Eto app will be responsible for scheduling, entry and exit of all trucks into the ports with effect from February 27.”

The Authority urged all transporters, trucks owners and truck drivers to download the Eto App from Google play store, or sign up at http://eto.ttp.com.ng before commencement date, in order to enable them register.

The document stated, “In addition to this, cargo owners should note that empty containers can only be returned to the ports through approved holding bays of shipping companies using the Eto Platform.

“It is the responsibility of shipping companies to move empty containers from their holding bays to the Ports. All cargo owners have to drop their empty containers at the holding bays of shipping companies.

“The shipping firms will make necessary bookings on the Eto platform to return empty containers to the Ports.”
