Apparently, the cap of academic excellence, intelligence, resilience and tenacity fits Mr Bolaji Akinola, a maritime and corporate communication expert.
Akinola, who currently sits atop Ships & Ports Limited, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has just bagged a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, in Media and Communication, from the Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), Lagos.
To many stakeholders in the maritime industry, his latest achievement didn’t come as a surprise, because Dr Akinola is known to be focused, result-oriented and very resourceful.
He is a reputable entrepreneur and employer of labour in the maritime industry.
A man, who through dint of hard work has carved a niche for himself, excelling in specific areas of his under-takings.
Today, Dr Akinola is a force to reckon with in Nigerian maritime industry.
His ingenuity and inventiveness stand him out among his contemporaries in the industry.
He understands the workings of the maritime industry like the back of his palm, even as he is highly proficient on issues of maritime development.
He consults for leading maritime companies within and outside the shores of Nigeria, even as he is also the Co-founder, and a Director with Maritime Microfinance Bank Limited, Apapa, Lagos.
The PhD degree was conferred on Akinola by the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Governing Council of the University, Mr. Henry Odein Ajumogobia -SAN, OFR and the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Juan Elegido.
His PhD thesis with the title, ‘Millennials, Digital Natives and the Future of Print Newspapers’, was successfully defended before a panel on October 29, 2020.
His thesis was supervised by Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, while the examining panel was made up of Dr. Mike Okolo as Chairman, Prof. Akashoru, the external examiner; as well as Dr. Nelson Okorie and Dr. Kingsley Ukaoha, the internal examiners from the School of Media and Communication.
More so, Dr Akinola holds MBA, from Lagos Business School, Masters in Transport Management, from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, and PGD in Journalism, from Times Journalism Institute, Lagos.
Also, he served as the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Maritime Expo (NIMAREX).
Dr Akinola was the President, Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) from 2011 to 2014.
He is a Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) and Fellow of the Certified Institute of Shipping of Nigeria (CISN).
He has won several accolades in the maritime sector.
His words during the conferment of the PhD, “My commitment is to lifelong learning. Every day, we commit to learning, growing and developing ourselves so that we can add value to our industry, the country at large and the world.
“Expanding our knowledge comes down to diving deeper into our areas of expertise. One commits to learning more and more about one’s industry, and commits to sharpening timeless, applicable skills that help us move forward daily in life”.
Above all, he is a likeable personality.
