The out-going Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Oyo/Osun Command, Comptroller Uche Ngozi, has made Nigeria’ Customs Service proud with remarkable feats recorded within nine months of hard work and assiduousness.

Result-oriented Boss:
Comptroller Uche Ngozi, who is resilient and result- oriented generated a whopping sum of over ₦43.6billion revenue for the Federal Government, from February to November 19, 2020.

Also, Comptroller Ngozi and her formidable team made seizures worth more than ₦619.3miion in Duty Paid Value (DPV), for the period under review.

The achievements of this amiable Area Controller in the last nine months speak volumes.

Managerial competence :
It is to her credit that Oyo/Osun Command of Customs wears a new look. From the entrance gate to the reception, up to CAC’s office, conference room and the parade ground are complete make-over like a world class corporate ambience.

Most outstanding in her records of performance was her operational effectiveness in sustaining the tempo of anti-smuggling drive during END-SARS protest that caused serious panic across the whole country.

Exemplary team leader:
More so, Comptroller Ngozi, equally demonstrated her managerial competence in building strong inter-agency synergy with other security agencies, as well as relevant stakeholders.

She is an exemplary team leader, who believes team work produces timely and satisfying results for national security and economic development.

Operational effectiveness:
The CAC also demonstrated her proactive leadership trait when she personally led her officers for 8 hours operations at the border communities surrounded by bush paths.
Today, it is on records that Comptroller Ngozi is the first female Customs Boss in the history of Nigeria Customs to embark on such operation in the bush. She has demonstrated beyond doubt that female officers are highly competent in the job.

Lioness of the Jungle:
Our Correspendent observed that the risky operation took Comptroller Ngozi and her team through the border communities of Kishi, Saki and Odo, up to the border line between Nigeria and another African country.

Impressed by her doggedness, HRM- Iba of Kishi community: HRM – Okere of Saki community and HRM- Okerete of Odo community gave Nigeria Customs vast plots of land to build offices and barracks to ensure Customs presence in their communities.

That was not all.
The community leaders also gave Comptroller Ngozi a special title called, ‘Lioness of the Jungle’, following her fearlessness in leading that operation.

Anti-smuggling feats:
During END-SARS protest, she placed all units under the Command on red-alert, leading to series of interceptions along various unapproved routes, which include 624 bags of foreign rice with Duty Paid Value of ₦27 million and
214 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol).

Other items seized by the CAC and her team during the period under review include Rice -11,481Bags- N360,157,575.00; Indian Hemp -340 Block- N16,706,452.00; Vegetable Oil- 91 Gallons, 103 Kegs- N2,484,879.00 ;
Used Tyres -1,694 Pieces- N22,292,851.00;
Second-Hand Clothing 325 Bales- N41,452,780.00; Fertilizer 800 Bags of NPK 15-15-15 : N18,702,000.00;
PMS 1,160 Drum (100 litres) 979 Kegs (25 litres).

Others were;
Motorcycles- 41 Units- N3,440,475.00;
Cars -39 -N53,297,161.00;
Trucks- 6 -N48,487,996.00
Pick-Up -5 – N11,813,329.00 ;
SUV – 9 – N21,911,736.00
Truck Tanker – 1 – N4,957,406.00 Bus – 7 – N13,643,695.00, with a
Total DPV of N619,348,335.00.

Within the same period, the Command under her watch collected a total duty of ₦43.6billion with outstanding balance of over ₦1billion.

During her tenure, Comptroller Ngozi, maintained a good working partnership with Customs Intelligence Unit, Federal Operations Unit, Strike Force, Customs Police, Border Drill, Military and other sister agencies.

Specific projects include renovation of
Government Warehouse/Pelleting of Commodities there in; Area Controller’s ofice furnishing; conference hall furnishing; construction of Help Desk/Station Writer; repair of office Elevator; construction of two entrance gates at the office complex
and Ijokodo barracks; replacement of sign posts at office complex; furnishing of officers Mess; the Mosque;
Chapel; provision of borehole;
illumination of the barracks and office Premises, beautification of the parade ground; acquisition of vast plots land for the Service at Saki, Odo and Kishi; as well as replacement of burnt operational Toyota Hilux.

On the whole, fearless Comptroller Ngozi thanked CGC Hameed Ali, for the opportunity given to her to express her managerial competence in the job.
