Comptroller Yusuf Lawal takes over leadership of Customs FOU Zone ‘C’ Owerri
(By Udeme Clement):
Comptroller Yusuf Lawal, has taken over the mantle of leadership, as the new Customs Area Controller (CAC), in charge of Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘C’ Owerri.
Jerry Attah, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Unit, made this known in a press statement.
Lawal, who took over from Comptroller Kayode Olusemire, thanked his predecessor for the anti- smuggling feats recorded by the Unit under his watch.
He urged operatives of the Unit to step up their anti- smuggling operations, in order to prevent loss of government revenue from under-payment, under-declaration and false declaration often made by importers to evade duty payment.
He stressed that the forthcoming Yuletide period and beyond will be tough for smugglers in eleven States within South/South and South/East under the coverage of Customs in Zone ‘C’.
He said:
“The Unit will continue to act tough against illicit traders by arresting them and seizing their wares.”
Lawal also advised members of the business community in Zone ‘C’, who are involved in import and export to ensure compliance with government fiscal policies.
He added:
“Compliance has become a tool for productivity and a way of building a reputation of integrity in business”.
The new CAC sought the support of sister security agencies, while looking forward to consolidate on the existing synergy between FOU Zone ‘C’ and other services.
