Land slide victory, as Leye Ajayi emerges new Chairman of Lagos NUJ

It was a land slide victory at the just concluded election of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, as Comrade Leye Ajayi, emerged the winner.

Leye Ajayi of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), pulled a total of 370 votes to defeat the incumbent Chaiman, Comrade Quazim Akinreti, who scored 68 votes.

In the same vein, Comrade Tunde Olalere of Lagos State Ministry of Information, emerged Secretary of the Union.  He scored 381 votes to defeat his opponent Camrade Raymond Tedu Jaiye, with 53 votes.

Mr Innocent Anaba of Vanguard newspaper, who contested for the post of Financial Secretary, won with 377 votes, while his opponent, Iyabo Wale, pulled only 56 votes.

Our Correspondent observed that the election was generally very peaceful and well coordinated.

The turn out of Journalists, who participated in the election was quite impressive.

Voting began in the morning as scheduled and ended by 2pm. After which the votes were counted openly and the result announced immediately.

The exercise was free, fair and very transparent, as observers expressed satisfaction at the level of efficiency displayed by the electoral committee.

Accordingly, the result was annnounced by the Vice President of NUJ, Zone B, Mr. Cosmos Oni, who urged elected officers to be selfless and diligent in handling affairs of the Union.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Leye expressed great pleasure to colleagues for their support during the election. He promised to work assidiuously to reposition the Union.
