Nationwide strike : MWUN to shutdown port operations

*Mobilises members across Nigeria

By Udeme Clement :

The news reaching our platform now indicates that the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (NWUN), has mobilised its members across the country to shut down operations at the nation’s seaports.

The decision is in tandem with the directives by Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), calling for a nationwide strike, to protest hike in petrol prices and electricity tariff in the country.

These assertions formed part of the press statement issued by President-General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, and made available to Financial Business News.

The press release reads, “In compliance to NLC directives that all affiliated unions embark on an indefinite strike, with respect to incessant hike in prices of fuel and increased electric tariff, MWUN has mobilised its member to shut down all the nation’s ports in compliance to NLC directives.”

He emphasised, “Consequently, all ports gate will be closed to business and port users from 5am tomorrow being Monday 28th September, 2020.”
