The Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has recorded massive seizures of exotic cars, as well as other prohibited items worth over N10 billion in Duty Paid Value, DPV.

The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Unit, Usman Yahaya, disclosed this through the Public Relations Officer, PRO, Peter Duniya.

He stated that the seizures, which include 34 fairly used/new vehicles, foreign rice, secondhand clothes, cannabis sativa and other items were intercepted in one day through intelligence.

Speaking further, he revealed that the items were intercepted along Ido –Eruwa, Ibadan, Oyo State.

He informed that during the operations, his officers encountered stiff resistance from Illicit traders but didn’t back out from their duty.

He pointed out, “The smugglers engaged the support of hoodlums but our operatives displayed high level of intelligence, professionalism and restraint to secure the seized items “.

He went on, “Our operatives met stiff resistance from smugglers, hoodlums, as well as the villagers.

“Despite that resistance, our patrol teams displayed high level of professionalism and were able to bring all the vehicles down to Lagos without any casualty”.

He frowned at nefarious activities of smugglers engaging in economic sabotage, by working against government policies on food production and sufficiency.

His assertions,  “Though, we appreciate the support and cooperation of patriotic members of the public in carrying out our statutory functions, recalcitrant economic saboteurs must note that, they will continue to count losses with their Illicit trade.

“The reality is that we are better mobilised, always ahead of them and will continue to thwart their efforts”.
