Customs at PTML collects N87.8bn for FG

*Attributes high revenue to increase in volume of trade

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited Command, PTML, has generated a whopping sum of over N87.8billion into the coffers of the Federal Government.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Command, Mr Mohammed Yakubu, disclosed this to reporters.

The PRO spoke on behalf of the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of PTML, Comptroller Festus Okun.

He informed, “The Command collected N87.8billion within six months, from January to June 2020.

“In 2019, the Command generated the sum of N75.7billion from January to June.

“Looking at the figures, the amount collected in 2020 shows surplus of N12.1billion, which indicates increase of 16 percent, when compared to what the Command collected same period in 2019.”

He revealed that the feat recorded in reveue collection despite COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the economy, was as a result of increase in cargo throughput and diligence on the part of Officers at PTML Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Okun.

For instance, the Command collected a huge sum of N16.4 billion in January 2020; N13.3 billion in February; N15.6 billion in March; N11.2 billion in April; N13.6 billion in May and N17.5 billion in June.

Mr Yakubu pointed out, “The amount collected by the Command in June 2020, is the highest revenue so far generated in the history of PTML since its formal commissioning took place by August 18, 2006.”

He emphasised that Comptroller Okun, along with officers and men of PTML have been working tirelessly to keep the Command afloat, notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic.
