COVID-19 : Western Marine Customs rejigs operational strategies on waterways, creeks

As the lock-down order by government continues, the Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has rejigged its operational strategies on Western waters and creeks within it area of coverage.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, disclosed this during a press conference in Lagos.

He stressed that the Command re-positioned
its modus-operandi to restrain the menace of smuggling on the waterways.

Comptroller Peters stressed that the dare-devil smugglers on creeks are trying to take advantage of the lock-down period and ship in contraband. As such, the Marine operatives are rejigging their strategies to track them, no matter their tricks.

He revealed that such strategies paved the way for massive seizures the Command is still making on waterways despite the lock-down.

In the same vein, Comptroller Peters emphasised the need for officers to give physical distance during operations, In line with the Executive Order of government, to prevent further spread of deadly coronavirus in the country.

Comptroller Peters stressed, “COVID-19 is real. Let us always follow instructions of the medical experts in all our activities.

“Give physical distance and maintain appropriate safety measures while on duty”.
