The President, Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria, MAJAN, Mr Ray Ugochukwu, has commended Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, for donations of 20 ventilators, N50 million cash to fight coronavirus in the country; with N30 million going to the Federal Government Committee on COVID-19 Intervention and N20 million for Lagos State Government.

The MAJAN President, praised Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh for his initiative in supporting the government to tackle the virus.

According to him, Dr Jamoh acted in the nick of time to assist government in its efforts to curb further spread of the deadly virus.

Ugochukwu, emphasized that the new DG of NIMASA has pragmatically demonstrated outstanding leadership quality by being sensitive to the plight of the nation.

In the same vein, Mr Ugochukwu set up a committee comprising of four members to monitor compliance on the Executive Order of government directing complete lock-down in Lagos.

Areas visited by the monitoring team include, Tincan Island port, the main Wharf road leading to Apapa port, ware-house road and Area-B axis close to NAGAFF village, up to Marine Bridge where the exercise ended.

During the monitoring exercise, it was observed that access roads to the ports were very scanty with only security agents seen everywhere.

At Tincan Island port, Customs officers were seen on their duty posts but clearing agents were not on ground to carry out transactions.

Our team also observed that all the commercial banks near the premier port were under lock-and-key.
