Coronavirus: Customs takes practical steps to protect officers on duty

Responding to questions on measures taken by Customs management to protect officers at various duty posts, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of Tincan Island Port Command, Mr Uche Ejesieme said,
“The national PRO has directed that we respond to this very important question.
“You will recall that the first case was reported in Wuhan China on 17th November 2019 and this triggered the consciousness of CGC Ali Hameed and management on measures to contain in the event that it escalates to our clime.”

He went on,
“The management acted in the nick of time, as its directed all Commands through an internal memo to be proactive.”

He stressed, “Consequently, when the index case was confirmed in Nigeria, most Commands had already began sensitisation and awareness seminars on the pandemic.

“In those seminars,medical personnel were invited for lectures on precautionary measures. Items like hand sanitizers,hand gloves and face masks where also shared.”

His assertion, “It is therefore safe to state, instructive to note that we are more proactive than reactionary”.

Also, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’, Lagos, Mr Jerry Attah, presented pictures on practical measures taken by his Unit to curtail spread of coronavirus.

In the same vein, the PRO of Apapa Command, which is the premier port in the country, Mrs Nwala, said, “Apapa Command has these measures to prevent spread of the virus, as far back as February, 2020”
