*Says Customs should integrate SON fully into its platform

The Founder, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, Dr Boniface Aniebonam has called on the Federal Government to ensure that Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, returns to all seaports across Nigeria, as a matter of urgency.
Aniebonam said this while addressing participants at a one-day maritime stakeholders sensitisation workshop, organised by SON at Rock-view hotel, Apapa, Lagos.
He added, “At this point, we commend SON for working tirelessly to curtail influx of fake and substandard products into Nigeria.
“SON is doing a lot to save lives of Nigerian consumers. SON must return to all the seaports immediately, to prevent these killer products from entering our markets through the seaports”.
He pointed out, “When officials of SON are at the seaports, they will track these harmful goods right there”.
Speaking further, Aniebonam advised Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to fully integrate SON into its electronic platform.
This, he said, will enhance seamless cargo clearance at ports and trade facilitation in line with global best practice.
Giving more explanation on the theme of the work shop, he stressed, “The topic, ‘Facilitating Trade Through SON’s Automated Service’ is carefully thought-out for this programme. I really appreciate the initiative of SON in putting together this important workshop.
“You can see the large number of freight forwarders, Journalists and stakeholders here. This programme will go a long way in enlightening us on SON’s automated services.
“Let us take advantage of this opportunity to interact on what must be done to develop our port industry”.
Aniebonam also commended the presentation made by the Director of Inspectorate /Compliance, Engineer Obiora Malafa, who represented the Director General of SON.
