This figure represents 104.6% of the expected revenue target for the month of December 2019.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Command, Mr Joseph Haruna Ephraim disclosed this to Financial Business News.

Speaking on behalf of the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller L E Oyama,  he explained,  “From January to December 2019,  the revenue collected by the Command was ₦56.4 billion, as against the sum of ₦50 billion generated in 2018.

“This revenue figure surpassed the year 2019 target with over ₦4.6 billion. This amount  represents 109.1 % of the expected revenue target from January to December last year.”

He informed, “Comparatively, the total revenue collected by MMA Command in the year 2019, exceeded the total revenue generation of the Command in the past four years (2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015) with ₦6.3 billion, ₦8.3 billion, ₦916.1 million and  ₦13.6 billion”.

His words,  “It is worthy to note that the Command achieved this feat due to new operational strategies put in place by  Comptroller LE Oyama (Mrs),  who took charge of the Command on 21st of August, 2019.

“Since she came on board,  the Command has been exceeding its monthly revenue targets. Some of the strategies include repositioning of man power; regular stakeholders engagement, resulting in increased compliance; regular meetings with principal officers (DC Sheds, Releasing officers, Examination officers, officers in charge of gates, TARMAC and Tally officers). Others include open-door management policy; capacity building for officers at the Command (organising refresher courses on HS Code, Classification, Role of Origin and Valuation.

The CAC also ensures removal of bottle necks by decentralizing the clearing process, resulting in trade facilitation; and regular consultations with her bosses at the Zonal Office and Headquarters Abuja.”

He enthused, “On 2019 anti –smuggling activities , the Command under the leadership of Comptroller Oyama, recorded unprecedented 125 seizures with duty paid value (DPV) of ₦1,138 222,689.36

“These seizures include drones of different makes, Walkie-Talkie Radios; Military uniforms/Armored Vests, among others
