The Ogun 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has seized N2.5million fake currency notes, 160 jerrycans of smuggled petrol and 40 drums of ethanol, through its increased tempo in ant-smuggling operations these ember months.

The Command swiftly arrested a suspect in connection with the fake notes.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Command, Mr Abdullahi Maiwada, made this known in a press release.

He explained, “Our officers seized the fake notes at Ihunbo check-point, along Sango-Idiroko road.

“During interrogation, the suspect, identified as Mr Samson Odebija confessed that he was sent by Alfa to help him transport the fake notes from Idiroko to Owode, with a promise to reward him with N5.000.”

He informed, “The Anti-smuggling Crack Team of the Command intercepted 40 drums of ethanol. The item was strictly stamped by NAFDAC for industrial use”.

He went on, “Investigaton revealed that some unpatriotic Nigerians engaged in distribtion of the product to Idiroko populace, who ignorantly dilute it with water and take as alcoholic drink, which is very harmful to the body.”

The PRO pointed out, “Also, the  Command Anti-bunkering Team ‘A’ uncovered smugglers hideout at Iko-gate along Idiroko and seized 160jerrycans of petrol”.

Maiwada attributed the feats recorded by the Command to hard work and innovative leadership style of the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Comptroller Agbara Michael.
