.Says access control vital for security reasons

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, Tincan Island Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Mr Uche Ejesieme, has insisted that there was no crisis at the Tincan Port access road as portrayed by some media reporters few days ago.

The PRO cleared the air while addressing reporters who visited his office following the news report.

Ejesieme stressed that there was no clash between officials of Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and Customs officers of Tincan Command, as earlier reported in the media.

Uche, who initially stressed that the report about Tincan officers pulling down NPA gate was misleading and not necessary to respond, said, he decided to react, in order to set the record straight for the public to know the truth.

He personally took reporters to the access road to show that nothing happened to NPA gate, contrary to the reports, even as Journalists saw that businesses were going on smoothing at the port.

Responding to question on what prompted the access control exercise, he said, “Port Access Control was agreed on by Customs, NPA and all stakeholders to be carried out for security reasons.

“The aim is to check the number of people coming into the port daily, who ought not to be there.”

He emphasised, “This exercise is done strictly for security reasons. We realise that a large number of people who do not have business in the port keep coming in and out of the place just roaming about.”
