.“The Comptroller-General of Customs ,CGC, Ali Hameed is performing excellently in a hostile environment with lack of patriotism among greater number of Nigerians”.

These were the words of NAGAFF Founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, in a statement signed and made available to Financial Business News.

Dr Aniebonam made this statement while reacting to a negative media report describing the current Customs administration under CGC Ali as a monumental failure.

Aniebonam condemned such negative report on the assessment of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, stressing that the report was wrong and misleading.

His words,  “Matters arising: It is to NAGAFF management team that both parties were talking from sidelines. None is directly involved in Customs administration and management of CEMA.

“In due course, NAGAFF may make further statement as a critical stakeholder in the maritime trade Customs facilitate in the ports and border stations.”

He went on, “NAGAFF is the umbrella body of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria, with members’ presence at strategic entry points of Nigeria and trade related matters”.

He pointed out, “Therefore, NAGAFF is strategically positioned to score the success or failure of the present administration of NCS under the leadership of CGC Ali Hameed.”

Dr Aniebonam continued, “The advice we have for NCS management is to expand their scope of communication with concerned stakeholders, who come to transact business with the Customs in the port and border stations.

“The Presidential mandates for the CGC to reform, restructure and enhance revenue functions of the Service are straight and unambiguous.

“The challenges before the Service may be uncommon support of the organised private sector by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. Again, in due course, NAGAFF may make further statement.”
