The Minister of Power, Mr. Sale Mamman has urged Distribution Companies, Discos, operating in Nigeria to invest more in infrastructure, in order to improve on power distribution for greater economic growth.
The Minister made this known yesterday, at the 2019 Future Energy Nigeria, FEN, Conference and Exhibition in Lagos.
Speaking further, the Minister expressed readiness by the Power Ministry to support investors willing to invest in distribution infrastructure to increase electricity distribution in the country.
He said, “Endorsement of this conference by the Ministry of power is because over the years, the conference has provided solutions to some challenges in the power sector”.
Mamman assured, “Our doors are open to investors willing and ready to invest in our power sector.
“Also, we will work out ways to ensure that the Discos partner with power equipment manufacturing companies. Doing this will enable them manufacture distribution equipment locally”.
He went on, “As a party to the Paris Agreement, Nigeria made a commitment to reduce its greenhouse gases by 20 per cent unconditionally and 45 per cent conditionally, with energy mix, we can achieve these goals”.
The conference with a theme; ‘Advancing Partnership and Solutions for a Sustainable Energy Economy’, paved the way for more discussions on ways to address challenges associated with electricity distribution in the country.
