 The Deputy Comptroller of Enforcement, Tincan Island Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, DC Dera Nnadi has called on Nigerians to support the policy of Federal Government on industrialisation, in order to rejuvenate the nation’s economy for optimum productivity.

DC Nnadi, who is known to be an experienced enforcement officer of the Service, made this call while addressing participants, at the maiden edition of Educators and Maritime Stakeholders Round-table programme, organised by Ocean Ambassadors.

 Speaking further on the urgent need to reduce excessive imports coming into the country at the detriment of locally made products, he pointed out, “We need to support government’s policy designed to encourage locally manufactured goods in the country.

“This is quite imperative for Nigeria as a country to attain food security.

“It is also important to note that any nation that does not have food security is not fit to remain as a country. This is because, if there is any blockade by your neighbours, you are finished.

“Infact, starvation is the worst form of warfare. If we cannot cultivate our own arable land, it means we are not planning for the future. We must focus on producing our own local rice now.
“Therefore, we must encourage locally made goods for Nigeria to industrialise.”

The Tincan Enforcement officer went on, “In reality, any country that wants to grow and achieve industrialisation must not only depend on import tax.”

DC Nnadi emphasized that Customs, as well as other security agencies in the country are working assiduously to curtail smuggling at the border points, adding that Nigerians should support this effort for the economy to thrive.

Talking on the issue of non-compliant traders doing business in the port, he stressed, “Let traders make correct declaration and comply with the extant laws. When people deliberately refused to do the right thing, the law must take its course”.
