The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Murtala Muhammed Area Command has made impressive performance in revenue generation, as the Command raked in a huge sum of over ₦4.9 billion into the coffers of the Federal Government in September, 2019.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Command, Mr Ephraim Joseph Haruna disclosed this to Financial Business News

He enthused, “The amount realised in the month of September, 2019, exceeded the Command’s monthly revenue target with ₦674,171,230.00.

“This revenue increase translates to 115.6 percent, which also exceeded the amount collected in September, 2018 with over N1 billion. In the same period in 2018, the Command generated ₦3.9 billion”.

The PRO pointed out, “The Command achieved this feat due to new strategies put in place by the new Customs Area Controller, CAC, Comptroller L E Oyama (Mrs), who took charge of the Command in August 21, 2019.”

He informed, “Some of the new strategies include repositioning of man power; regular stakeholders’ engagement resulting in increased compliance and regular meetings with principal officers- (DC Sheds, Releasing officers, Examination officers, officers in charge of gates, TARMAC and Tally officers)

“Others are open-door policy; capacity building (organising refresher courses on HS Code, Classification, Role of Origin, Valuation and other aspects of Customs operations); removing bottle necks by decentralizing the clearing process, resulting in trade facilitation and regular consultations with her bosses at the Zonal Office and Headquarters, Abuja”.

His assertion, “In the area of anti –smuggling activities, the Command made impressive seizures for the month of September 2019, with Duty Paid Value ,DPV, of ₦12, 615,743.30. The seizures include drones of different makes, Walkie-Talkie Radios and Military Vests”.

The CAC is using this medium to inform the public that drones are not allowed into the country without End-User-Certificate, EUC, for security reasons.

While commending the level of stakeholders’ compliance, she charged them to continue in their truthful declarations, to enable seamless clearance of consignments.

The CAC also encouraged officers and men of the Command to be disciplined and apply the 7-Cs, particularly “consulting colleagues”, working as a team and controlling situations while on duty.
