.NAFDAC lauds Comptroller Binga on operational strategy

It was another moment of astonishment at the Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, as the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller BN Binga destroyed 2,349 cartons of smuggled poultry products hours ago.
The seized items burnt before officials of NAFDAC, other government agencies and Journalists were estimated at a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of over N23.7million.
This is coming only few days after the same Command destroyed similar products worth N32.4million.
Addressing journalists at the destruction site, Comptroller Binga disclosed that the prohibited items were seized within their area of coverage through intelligence.
The CAC stressed that smugglers will continue to incur losses, as Customs will not hesitate to seize and destroy harmful products smuggled into the country illegally.
He asserted, “We are here to witness yet another destruction of seized poultry products. We are always ready to do this, since smugglers do not want to stop sabotaging our economy. Over N23.7million that would have been invested in legitimate and productive business is going to be burnt here, as you can see.”
The CAC went on, as the items were being destroyed, “Since illicit traders are not tired of losing their money, we are not tired of destroying it. They should look for better things to do, than to smuggle in products that are prohibited”.
“They can use their money to farm. We have enough land in the country”.
Also, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Emmanuel Tangua commended the leadership style of Comptroller Binga, which paved the way for the feats recorded by the Command so far.
He called on the media to partner with Customs in the fight against smuggling, by enlightening the masses on the dangers of illicit trade to the economy.
In a chat with Financial Business, the NAFDAC official, Mr. Isah Salihu, a senior regulatory officer, further commended Comptroller Binga on the operational strategies his Command is using to thwart the antics of smugglers.
The CAC was accompanied by the Acting DC Enforcement of the Command, CSC Ariyibi, Mr Tangua and other senior officers.
