Again: Niger, Kogi Customs intercepts rice worth N11.9m in Dangote truck

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Niger, Kogi Command has intercepted Dangote Truck loaded with 700 bags of smuggled rice.
The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller Abba-Kassim Yusuf disclosed this through the Public Relations Officer, PRO. Mr. B O Lomba.
He revealed that the registration number of the seized truck is XA 297 -NAK and the 700 bags of foreign Rice are estimated at a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N 11.9million.
The CAC frowned, “Despite campaign against Rice smuggling into the country, the Anti-smuggling Patrol Team of the Command around Minna-Lambata-Suleja axis seized Dangote truck transporting 700 bags of Rice worth N11.9million”.
He recalled, “Few months ago, similar seizure of DANGOTE Truck with Reg. No. DAL 769 XA DSR-1B-019 conveying 520 bags of 50kg Rice worth N8. 8million was intercepted. The rice was concealed with 50 bags of Sugar worth Six Hundred and Ninety Seven Thousand Naira (N 697,000), along Mokwa axis of the Command.”
Comptroller Abba-Kassim expressed displeasure, “It is worrisome that some Nigerians remained unrepentant, even as they continue to lose their goods. Not even the Federal Government’s visible efforts in transforming Agricultural sector; especially in the area of rice production has touched their conscience to avoid rice smuggling”.
The CAC enthused, “Our officers and men are totally committed. The renewed strategy and proactive measures put in place to uncover new tactics of smugglers are yielding positive results.
“The Command supports government policies and the Next Level Agenda to encourage Home-Grown Rice, which will go a long way in creating jobs for the youths”.
The CAC appealed to the public, to always embrace legitimate means of livelihood and to avoid smuggling in all ramifications.
“The eagle-eye is all around Niger/Kogi Command to uncover and suppress smuggling to the barest minimum, in order to enhance economic growth”, he emphasised.
