It was yet another moment of shock at the Shagamu dump site in Ogun State, few hours ago, as Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in collaboration with NAFDAC, National Environmental Standard Regulatory Enforcement Agency, NESREA and other security agencies destroyed large quantity of tramadol drugs seized by Customs.
Speaking at the site in Shagamu, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Zone ‘A’, ACG Kaycee Ekekezie, who represented CGC Ali Hameed, said that destruction of tramadol drugs becomes necessary to curtail banditry and other crimes committed in the country under the influence of hard drugs.
According to her, the destruction of tramadol drugs worth billions of naira will serve as deterrent to other importers not to engage in illicit drugs importation, but to channel their resources to productive businesses that will add value to the nation’s economy.
In the same vein, the Chairman Joint Committee made up of Customs and other sister agencies, Aminu Dahiru said that about 58 containers of seized tramadol are to be destroyed by the Service.
He added that the destruction of seized tramadol will not stop in zone ‘A’, but will continue in Port Harcourt and other Sates of the federation
