The Tincan Island Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has recorded impressive revenue performance in 2109, with a whooping sum of over N179.2 billion generated into the coffers of the Federal Government, from January to July 10th 2019.
The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller MBA MUSA made this disclosure through the Public Relations Officer, PRO.
Giving more details on achievements of the Command, he explained, “A comparative review of the preceding year 2018 indicated that the Command realised N172.5billion .
“The latest report represents 52.28 percent of the annual target with differential of N6.7billion from the previous year, as shown below”.

Giving more facts on export activities, the Tincan Customs Boss informed, “Sequel to the urgent need for balance of trade through Export, the Command, during the period under review embarked on full automation of Export procedures as a panacea for seamless transactions. To this effect, the Command achieved a total of 150,930.7 Metric Tonnes of Export with FOB Value of N68.8billion (approximately N68.9billion)”.
He pointed out, “It will be recalled that the Command, during the preceding year in 2018, recorded 118,452.87MTS of Export with FOB value of N63.1million.
“The milestone recorded in Export clearly indicates awareness by Stakeholders on available opportunities inherent in Export business. The Command will continue to sensitise and encourage Exporters”.
On seizures and detentions, Comptroller Musa said, “The Command is leaving no stone unturned in the area of anti-smuggling, in view of the devastating effect of smuggling to the Nation and its implications on Lives and Security. Consequently, deliberate and concerted efforts are being made to ensure that examination and releasing officers remain proactive in discharging their statutory functions.
“Consequent upon the anti-smuggling drive by Tincan Port, the Command recorded seizures of 5 x 40ft and 4 x 20ft containers consisting of various items during the period under review. These include used tyres/ rims, bags of foreign rice, cartons of Tramadol and other pharmaceuticals with a total Duty Paid Value, DPV, of over N1.1 billion.
On trade facilitation strategies, he asserted, “The need for facilitation of legitimate trade is at the front burner of our discourse, and this necessitated the creation of various platforms for expeditious resolution of disputes and issues related to it. Such platforms include the following,

“This approach led to speedy resolution of disputes arising from Valuation, Classification and PAAR.
“Also, the Command is working out actionable modalities for use of Barges in transferring Cargo from the Mother Port to off-dock Terminals. This is with a view to reducing congestion, in order to speed up cargo delivery, considering the fact that Cargo throughput is increasing and road infrastructure is overstretched”.
His words, “The Command will continue to strive for excellence in achieving the mandate of the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Hameed Ibrahim Ali and his able Management.
“Efforts remain on top gear towards removal of bottlenecks and impediments in the trade value chain. Our ultimate aim is not just to key into the Presidential Directives on Ease of Doing Business, which is in line with World Customs Organization’s, WCO, Trade Facilitation Agenda, but to be seen as being at the Vanguard”.
He enthused, following the renewed enthusiasm and development of Standard Operational Procedures, SOP, for operational efficiency, the Command witnessed a major paradigm in its statutory functions. This trajectory provided the needed impetus for smooth implementation of the Presidential Directives on Ease of Doing Business.
“The Command appreciates the support and collaboration of other government Agencies like Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, National Agency for Food, Drugs, Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Nigeria Police, Quarantine, National Environmental Standard and Regulation Enforcement Agency, NESREA, Importers, Agents, the media and other critical Stakeholders in this onerous task of nation building.
“The Command reiterates it commitment towards realising and even surpassing the revenue target for 2019”.
