The Ogun Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has intercepted a Volvo truck loaded with about 190 bags of foreign rice within its area of coverage.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, made this known in a statement signed and released to Financial Business Nigeria.

According to him, “The items were carefully concealed in a Volvo truck with registration number BEN-236ZW, Edo State, but were intercepted along Lafenwa area of Abeokuta by vigilant officers.”

He explained, “Further examination revealed 190 bags of foreign rice, carefully packaged in a deceptive manner, in order to perpetuate illicit act of hampering economic growth of the nation”.

He informed, “This spectacular seizure shows continuous efforts by Ogun Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Agbara Michael, to curb illicit trade.

“The seizure was made by the Command’s Roving ‘B’ Anti-smuggling Patrol Team.  This also shows the Command’s discovery of new antics explored by the dare-devil smugglers to escape the eagle-eye of proactive officers”.

His assertion, “It is pertinent to recall that on May 17, 2019, the same unit intercepted a tipper truck along Ilaro-Papalanto  axis of Ogun State, loaded with 200 bags of foreign rice”.

He went on, “The CAC appealed to the public, to always embrace legitimate means of livelihood, to avoid smuggling, as the Command would not hesitate to seize prohibited items brought into the country through the back door”.

He stressed, “The officers and men of the Command are well trained and adequately equipped to carry out their statutory functions effectively”.
