The National Coordinator, Customs Strike Force, DC Abdullahi Kirawa has been honoured with ‘Award of Entrepreneurship Development’ for outstanding performance in tackling the menace of smuggling in the country.
This recognition is coming just as the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Ali Hameed empowered the Strike Force to operate in the seaports.
The Award was bestowed on him by the Managing Editor of Daily Business Update, who commended DC Kirawa for the feats recorded by his team so far.
He said, “We are honouring DC Kirawa today for his ingenuity and exceptional performance in anti-smuggling drive across the whole country. The seizures made by Kirawa and his men are on records for Nigerians to see.”
He went on, “For instance, in the first quarter of 2019, Kirawa recorded seizures of various prohibited items with Duty Paid Value, DPV, of over N460million. The items intercepted include a 40ft truck loaded with 304 cartons of imitation jewelries, worth N36.48million among many others.”
The Customs officers, who witnessed the presentation of the Award, described it as an honour well deserved for DC Kirawa and his team, calling on well-meaning Nigerians to support the Strike Force in curbing the activities of economic saboteurs in the country.
In his remarks, Kirawa said, “Smuggling destroys the economy, poses serious security risk to the nation. All hands must be on deck to fight this hydra-headed monster”.
