Revenue collection: Customs at Apapa rakes in N37.3bn

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Apapa Area -1 Command has generated a whooping sum of over N37.3 billion into the coffers of the Federal Government in April, 2019 economic year.

Financial Business Correspondent, who got the revenue figures during a visit to the Command, learnt that the current Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Apapa Customs, Comptroller Abba Kura, who took over recently from ACG Bashir Abubakar, is working assiduously to build on the high standards of revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling drive set by his predecessor.

Our investigations revealed that the Command is also promoting the ‘Executive Order’, on ease of doing, a policy introduced by the Federal Government to fast track cargo clearance at seaports, in order to enhance trade facilitation in line with international best practice.

Data obtained from the Public Relations unit of the Command, under the supervision of Nwala N. I , shows that Apapa Customs generated N32.5billion in January 2019, February -N27.5billion, March -N34.6billion and April -N37.3billion.

More so, looking at the revenue records the same period from January to April, 2018 fiscal year, the Command realised N31billion in January, February – N24.8billion, March- N25.9billion and April – N28.4billion.

Also, the Command is maintaining a smooth working synergy with other agencies of government operating within the premier port and 24 hours cargo clearance.
