.Seizes tramadol, truck load of codeine syrup, contraband worth N2bn

The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Aliyu Mohammed, has said that tough time awaits unrepentant smugglers, as his team made mind boggling seizures of 113 exotic cars, some of which were bullet proof vehicles, with Duty Paid Value, DPV, of over N1.33billion in just few weeks.
Comptroller Aliyu made this assertion during press conference at the Unit, even as he unveiled seizures of 1,000 sachets of Tramadol-X 250mg, 600 cartons of codeine syrup and 12 parcels of Indian hemp.
The CAC also displayed Dangote cement truck used in smuggling 800 bags of rice, intercepted along Shagamu road. Another 40ft truck fully loaded with smuggled rice but concealed with bottles of soft drinks. A truck loaded with tyres and washing machine.
Other seizures displayed by the CAC include 398 cartons of Really Extra (Diclofenac), 1,056 cartons of Chest and Lung tablets and 49 cartons of Paracetamol injection, imported into the country illegally.
In the same vein, FOU Zone ‘A’ from February 6 to April 16, 2019, seized 13,810 bags of foreign rice, 157 bales of used clothes, 180 kegs of vegetable oil, 200 cartons of frozen poultry products, 24 pieces of compressors, 43 bags of used shoes, 280 pieces of machetes, 62 cartons of tomato paste and 265 pieces of used tyres, among numerous items, with total DPV of N610million.
Some of the vehicles seized during the period under review include bullet-proof Lexus-2019 model, 2019 model Range Rover, Toyota Highlander-2018 model, 2015 model Lexus Jeep, 2018 Toyota Hilux and 2018 model bulletproof Range Rover, among several others intercepted along Shagamu-Ibadan expressway through strategised operations.
The CAC stressed that importation of vehicles through land borders is still under ban by the Federal Government, calling on Nigerians to support government policies, in order to enhance economic growth and development.
