The mind boggling seizures displayed by Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, two days ago is still in the news.
The Command seized over 5,383 bags of foreign rice equivalent to 9 trailers, with Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N97,001,660. Other items intercepted within a short period include Cannabis Sativa, Tramadol, vehicles, vegetable oil, sugar and various prohibited goods.
The Command through intelligence swiftly arrested 5 suspects in connection with the seizures, a female suspect (35 years) with 5.9kg Cannabis Sativa and even a fake NYSC member, who used a vehicle with Nigerian diplomatic number to cross the border.
The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Seme Command, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, while addressing news men during a press conference, expressed displeasure on the nefarious activities of smugglers, saying all hands must be on deck to curb the menace.
Our correspondent also observed that the Customs warehouse at Seme was filled to the brim with seized items.
