Apapa Customs urges women in maritime to be proactive

The Customs Area Controller, CAC, Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Bashir Abubakar has urged African Women in Maritime, WIMAFRICA, Nigeria chapter, to be more proactive in their activities in the maritime sector of the economy.

Comptroller Abubakar said this when members of WIMAFRICA paid him a working visit, at Apapa Command.

He stressed that women have a crucial role to play, not only in maritime sector of the economy but in nation’s building generally.

The Apapa Customs CAC called for more women participation in maritime sector for greater efficiency.

He informed, “More participation of women on activities in the maritime industry will bring about seamless operations with high level of integrity and proper declaration”.

He emphasized,  “The involvement of women in businesses within the maritime industry will further pave the way for greater growth of the sector in Nigeria and the West African sub-region at large”.

His assertion, “I greatly commend the effort of WIMAFRICA on what the members are presently doing in the sector.  I am also encouraging women to think onward and see ways to achieve greater growth in maritime sector now and in the long-run”.

Also speaking, the President of WIMAFRICA, who led the delegation to Apapa Command, Hajia Bola Muse, thanked Comptroller Abubakar for welcoming them.

She explained, “Our group promotes growth of women entrepreneurs in the maritime industry.

“We also promote cooperation among stakeholders in the sector, in order to enhance greater productivity and job creation”.

On the whole, the President of WIMAFRICA called for more support on capacity building programmes for women in maritime”.
