The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has generated a whooping sum of N27.5billion into the coffers of Federal Government in the month of February, 2019.
Financial Business gathered this during a visit to the Port yesterday.
Despite the fact that this is an election period with numerous holidays, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Apapa Customs, Comptroller Bashir Abubakar and his team are working assiduously to boost revenue collection for government.
Aside from revenue collection, the Command has also repositioned its internal capacity building structure for officers, to ensure optimum productivity in trade facilitation and anti-smuggling drive.
This internal training exercise has greatly enhanced operational efficiency of the men and officers of the Command, even as it ensures discipline at work.
Some agents and stakeholders doing business at Apapa, which is the Premier Port, in a chat with Financial Business during the visit, described Apapa Port as the most seamless in terms of Customs processes at the moment.
Thus, the hard work and resilience of Comptroller Bashir and his men have not gone unnoticed by the top Customs Management, the World Customs Organisation, WCO, and the local media.
Only few weeks after Apapa Command was honoured with the WCO Award for exceptional performance, Shipping World, a well known maritime Magazine in Nigeria has concluded plans to bestow Integrity Award on Comptroller Bashir.
This Award to many stakeholders is an honour well deserved for Apapa Customs CAC, taking into account his outstanding performance since he came on board.
