Smuggling constitutes serious economic sabotage-Says DC Kirawa

The National Coordinator, Strike Force of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Deputy Comptroller, DC Abdullahi Kirawa, has said that smuggling constitutes serious economic sabotage to efforts by government in growing the economy.
DC Kirawa said this in a chat with Financial Business correspondent in Lagos, stressed that all hands must be on deck to curb the menace.
Kirawa further explained that the Customs Strike Force under his supervision will continue to carry out its statutory duties without wavering.
On the World Customs Organisation, WCO, Award bestowed on him and his team during the International Customs Day celebration in Abuja, recently, he said, “We thank the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Ali Hameed for this recognition.
“This is great encouragement for us and we will continue to remain focused in carrying out our responsibilities. I equally thank our officers for their hard work and resilience”.
It could be recalled that recently Kirawa and his men recorded great feats in anti-smuggling drive, as they intercepted 8,090 bags of foreign rice with Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N113.2million, 40ft container of explosives, 195 sacks of Pangolin scales worth N8.39billion, 40ft container load of sex enhancing drugs worth N360million, 459 bales of secondhand clothing worth N22.9million and other seized items with total DPV of N9billion, within Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’.
