The Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has been honoured with the World Customs Organised, WCO, award for remarkable performance in 2018.

The prestigious award was given to the Unit, at the World Customs Day celebration, held in Abuja yesterday.

FOU Zone ‘A’ which is mainly an enforcement Unit covering numerous Customs Commands within the South West was recognised for remarkable performance in anti-smuggling operations, as well as revenue generation for government.

It could be recalled that FOU Zone ‘A’ from last August 17th to December 10th, 2018, seized prohibited items with Duty Paid Value, DPV, of about N5.1billion.

Some of the items seized include 39,664 bags of foreign rice (equivalent to 66 trailers load); 58 vehicles comprising 34 exotic cars and other items.

Most remarkably, the Unit rejected N50million bribe to clear a container of Tramadol worth over N808million.
