NDLEA lauds Seme Customs on seizures of tramadol, cannabis sativa

DC Enforcement, handing over the seized drugs to NDLEA at Seme Command:

The officials of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at Seme area have commended the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Seme Area Command for the seizures of over 56 rolls of tramadol and 43 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Indian Hemp, saying the Command has been very proactive in tackling illicit trade at the border.

The officials of NDLEA gave this commendation at Seme Customs Command, during the formal handing over of seized hard drugs to the Agency, to carry out thorough investigation, in order to unravel the syndicate behind illegal smuggling of dangerous drugs into  the country.

The seized drugs, which include 67 rolls by 10 packets, and 9 packs (225mg each) of tramadol, 56 rolls by 5 packets (200mg each) of tramadol and 43 parcels of Cannabis sativa, were handed over by the Deputy Comptroller, DC Enforcement of Seme Customs, DC Adhunse,  to the officials of NDLEA in Lagos.

Speaking, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Seme Command, Comptroller Mohammed Garba Uba, said, “These drugs are dangerous to our citizens, especially the youths, who can easily be influenced by it. As such, illegal importation of such hard drugs to the country must be checked in all ramifications.”

The seized drugs:

Seme Customs CAC, warned smugglers to desist from nefarious act and allow sanity in the economic environment, or be ready to face arrest and prosecution for economic sabotage

He said, “There is no hiding place for smugglers at Seme border. We have a duty to protect our economy from influx of harmful and prohibited items, and we must do that tirelessly.

“We will not hesitate to seize offensive items, arrest and prosecute smugglers, to serve as deterrent to others.”

Comptroller Uba pointed out, “The Service now is intelligence-driven. So, we are well trained and adequately equipped to carry out our duties effectively.

“My appeal is for Nigerians to be patriotic and engage in legitimate trade that will enhance economic growth and development, rather than sabotaging government’s effort in growing the economy”.
