Apparently, the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, is generating huge revenue for the Federal Government, as Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara Zonal Command generated N1.8 billion in 2018 fiscal year.

Similarly, the Command recorded N454. 8million seizures during the period under review.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command,  Magaji Mailafiya, disclosed this in Sokoto, explained that the whooping sum collected shows an increase of N390.9 million when compared to  N1.4 billion revenue, as well as N450.5 million seizures recorded in 2017.

He pointed out, “The amount collected represents 94.45 per cent of 2018 target of N1.97 billion, which shows increase of 26.59 per cent in revenue.  Within the period under review, the Command surpassed its targets in four consecutive months”.

According to him, 247 seizures with total Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N454.8 million was collected in 2018, while the Command recorded 204 seizures with DPV of N450 million in 2017.  Therefore, N4.3 million increase was realised, meaning that the command improved on its anti-smuggling operations with increase of 43 seizures in 2018.

Mailafiya stressed that the Command under the supervision of Umar Gimba, as the Customs Area Controller, CAC, is sensitising Nigerians to shun smuggling and engage in legitimate business for economic growth and development.
