The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Seme Area Command is putting measures in place to modernise implementation of Nigeria Customs Integrated Information System, NICIS ll, at the Joint Border Post for speedy cargo clearance.

Financial Business learnt that the Customs team led by ACG ICT and Modernisation on Implementation of NICIS ll, visited Seme Command for this important programme, yesterday.

In his assertion, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Seme Command, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, said the visit was to modernise implementation of NICIS II, which is an advanced stage of Automated System for Customs Data, ASYCUDA, at the Joint Border Post.

Exchange of pleasantry during the visit:

Comptroller Uba explained that the major objective of NICIS II modernisation at Joint Border Post, is to ensure harmonisation in cargo clearance processes.

This, he said, becomes imperative for a One-Stop-Border-Post (OSBP) in joint clearance, to enhance more revenue collection for greater economic growth.

The Seme CAC, pointed out, “Also the Service under the Comptroller-General of Custom, CGC Ali Hameed believes that harmonisation in cargo clearance will solidify cooperation and regional integration within the sub-region”.

He added, “The NICIS II platform is designed for sharing information and data on the same system.  Therefore, implementing it at the Joint Border Post in Seme, will pave the way for information sharing with other Customs administrations on that corridor.

“Also, it will promote trade facilitation for Nigeria’s economy and the sub-region as well”.
