Seme Customs, Benin Republic enforces international law on transit cargo

The Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has taken a decisive step on the enforcement of Customs International law on transit cargoes at the border.

The Command demonstrated this pragmatically by ensuring operations of a ‘Single Outlet’ at Seme border, which is known to be the busiest border area within the West African sub-region.

Financial Business gathered that using a Single Outlet at the border is quite imperative, as the Director General of Customs in Benin Republic, Comptroller of Customs in the same country, who are partners of the ‘Joint Border Post’ came for official inspection on final closure of all outlets, other than single entry and exit at the joint border post, yesterday, at Seme.

When contacted for comment, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Seme Command, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, confirmed the development.

He explained, “Closure of all outlets, except a single entry and exit at the joint border becomes imperative, following Seme decisive stand on enforcement of Customs International law on      transit cargoes.”

Comptroller Uba pointed out that such closure is important, and also in tandem with Customs international law on transit cargoes in the maritime industry.

Uba emphasized, “The Service under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Ali Hameed is working assiduously to ensure economic growth and development in Nigeria and within the sub-region. This has reflected on Customs operations in all ramifications”.
