The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has raked a huge sum of N1.1trillion into the coffers of the Federal Government, from January to November 2018.

The Service also recorded 4,010 seizures with a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N40billion within the same period under review.

The Customs National Public Relations Officer,  DC Joseph Attah, disclosed this yesterday at a breakfast meeting with Journalists in Lagos, explained that outstanding among the seized items are arms, ammunition, dangerous drugs, vehicles, foreign rice and other prohibited goods, smuggled into the country against government fiscal policy.

Giving analysis of the revenue generation, he pointed out, “You would recall that last year while announcing the unprecedented revenue record of 2017, which was N1.037trillion, we expressed hope of breaking the record. Today, I am happy to announce that from January to November 2018, the Service has broken the 2017 record with N1.1 trillion revenue.”

DC Attah enthused, “This is no doubt a clear testimony of the fact that the on-going reforms of the Service by the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Ali Hameed, is impacting positively on productivity”.

He went on, “You would also recall that last month, NCS announced seizures of 59 X 40ft containers of Tramadol and other controlled drugs across the Commands of the Service, such as Apapa 40, Tincan 10 and nine from Onne. In line with government’s policy on agriculture, a total of 238,094 (50kg) bags of rice were seized across the country within the same period”.

DC Attah continued, “So far, 806 vehicles were uploaded on the electronic auction platform introduced by the Service on July 3,2017.  753 winners emerged and a total of N346,146,349 was generated through this platform. The portal opens by 12noon Monday to 12noon Wednesday every week.

“Also, 424,391 bags of rice, worth N4,047.615,000.00 and other seized perishables were distributed to IDPs in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Edo states”.
In the same vein, the National PRO revealed that CGC Ali has sought and obtained Presidential order to extend distribution of relief items to other IDP camps and registered orphanages across the country.

He informed, “Already, the list of IDPs and Orphanages across the country are being complied, with a view to kick-starting the nation-wide distribution, as soon as possible”.
