The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Murtala Mohammed Area Command, MMAC, of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Jayne Shoboiki (PhD), is talking tough following the discovery of mind boggling concealment of very expensive items, at the International Airport yesterday.
Comptroller Shoboiki who led her officers on the operations yesterday, at the International Airport, was seen carrying out thorough physical examination of all the large cartons where the sophisticated goods were concealed with household items.
Financial Business observed that the physical examination exercise was very tasking, as the CAC and her officers were seen moving from one section of the exclusive area to another, opening and thoroughly searching the cartons one by one.
Speaking at the scene, the CAC condemned the act in totality, saying the technique used by the importers to conceal the items was a deliberate attempt to evade payment of Customs duty.
Comptroller Shoboiki described the act of such concealment as economic sabotage on government’s fiscal policy to increase revenue generation for economic growth and development.
The CAC urged importers to always comply with government’s fiscal policy on duty payment, warning that Customs at the International Airport would not hesitate to ensure seizure, arrest and prosecution of individuals trying to shortchange government, or working against the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
