Seme border: Comptroller Uba steps up security surveillance

The Customs Area Controller, CAC, Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Mohammed Uba Garba is putting measures in place to step up security surveillance at Seme border, in order to check illicit trade within the region.

This formed part of the first Joint Border Security Meeting, JBSM of 2018, which Comptroller Uba presided over as the Chairman.

Financial Business gathered that the meeting which took place at the conference hall, Joint Border Post, Seme, last Friday, September 7, 2018, attracted representatives of various security agencies operating at Seme Border.

Some stakeholders, who attended the meeting in a chat with Financial Business, commended Comptroller Uba for bringing fresh impetus to security measures vital in curbing cross border crimes, especially at a busy border town like Seme.

When contacted, Comptroller Uba, explained that the strategies mapped out at the meeting are in-house techniques and must not be disclosed to the public. But he assured that Customs under the watch of CGC Ali Hameed sees border security as something very important, which must be given serious attention, in order to protect Nigeria’s economy from influx of prohibited items.

The words of Comptroller Uba, “Customs effort in securing the nation’s borders, especially Seme, is in tandem with the directive of CGC Ali Hameed, aims at curtailing smuggling of offensive items into our economic environment”.

He pointed out, “In doing this, we are working in collaboration with other security agencies at the border to ensure that all loopholes are blocked and appropriate security measures at enforced, especially as the ember months approach”.
