The seized vehicle:

The Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has recorded another mind boggling seizure of Cannabis Sativa (popularly known as Indian Hemp) loaded in a mini truck, but concealed with fresh pepper, tomato and different types of vegetables.

This spectacular seizure is coming only one week, after the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the same Unit, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, addressed Journalists on the seizures of over N1.1billion recorded by FOU in few weeks.

Financial Business team that was at FOU when the seized Cannabis was unveiled, observed that the method of concealment used by the smugglers was astonishing.

The seized vehicle loaded with hard drugs:

The sacks containing hard drugs were loaded from the extreme side near the driver’s seat, while the baskets of pepper and tomato were arranged at the front of the vehicle. The large quantities of vegetables were packed on the iron carrier of the open side of the vehicle,  making it very difficult for anyone to detect the hard drugs inside.

It was also observed that the tomato and pepper were in smaller baskets, not like the normal baskets we see daily at tomato market around Ketu, Lagos.

Also, the back iron of the vehicle was totally covered with vegetables but FOU operatives through intelligence uncovered the hard drugs and seized the vehicle.

The vehicle loaded with Cannabis Sativa being unveiled at FOU Zone ‘A’:

Accordingly, the pepper, tomato and vegetables, which are perishable items, were auctioned immediately to market women.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of FOU Zone ‘A’, Jerry Attah, speaking on behalf of the CAC, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, said that FOU officers are well trained to uncover prohibited items, even when such items are concealed with other goods by smugglers.

He said, “As you could see here, these are big bags of Cannabis Sativa concealed with pepper, tomato and vegetables by smugglers, in order to escape security checks, but our officers who are very skillful in their operations intercepted the vehicle.”
