The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has commended the World Customs Organisation, WCO, and the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Ali Hameed for the initiative in organising the just concluded national workshop on Time Release Study, TRS, for cargo clearance in ports.
The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller Jibrin Musa gave this commendation while declaring open the workshop, said that Apapa Command, more specifically the APM Terminal was selected for the pilot study.
Comptroller Musa encouraged participants selected from various Customs Units, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Ministry of Finance, government agencies operating in the ports, as well as the officials from the office of National Security Adviser, to take advantage of the training to upscale their competences on TRS in cargo clearance.
He explained that as a premier port, Apapa Command was directed to release the APM, DC Gaya M. and AC Yahaya Idris to be part of the workshop, designed to intimate members of TRS working group on strategies and scope of the training.
According to Comptroller Musa, the training becomes imperative to enhance revenue generation for government and trade facilitation in line with global best practice.
He explained further that the Nigeria Customs Integrated System II, (NICIS II), is an upgraded ICT platform that gives access to all agencies involved in cargo clearance in the ports. Therefore, he appealed to all sister agencies involved in cargo clearance process to constantly interface with NICIS II platform for seamless cargo clearance.
