The Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has said that Ibom Science and Technology Park is an initiative, which would enhance human empowerment agenda of the State government.
He made this known while signing a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with SERGE Capital Investment limited, on the resuscitation of Ibom Science and Technology Park in Uyo.
According to him, the MoU demonstrated the promise by the State government to cooperate and support investors in the completion of the project.
Dr. Ekuwem who represented the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, explained that a ‘bottom up approach’ would be used in resuscitating Ibom Science and Technology Park.
His explanation, “The State would adopt a ‘bottom up approach’ in ensuring that those incubated at the park would move up, to set up cottage industries in the local communities, because this initiative is geared towards enhancing human empowerment agenda of the State government”.
He enthused, “The State government recognises technology as an under-pin of development across the world, as such, the Park is receiving priority attention from government. When completed, the project would open a large window of opportunities for young scientists and innovators in the state”.
In the same vein, the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Nse Essien commended the State government for the initiative in promoting science and technology in Akwa Ibom.
To him, the signing of MoU is a culmination on various stages of discussions, which the State government had with investors for the completion of Ibom Science and Technology project.
In his remarks, the President of SERGE Capital Investment limited (an Australian based firm with Chinese affiliation), Mr. Greg Todd said that the project would bring many economic benefits, as they would combine resources from Australia, China and the local communities to develop agriculture, infrastructure and trade with world class model.
