The dare devil smugglers operating within Ogun State, yesterday attacked Customs officers on duty within the area, abducted one of the officers and inflicted life threatening injuries on him.

The culprits also destroyed the Customs base located at Papalanto axis, close to Lafarge Cement Company, setting the whole place ablaze.

The Victim:

The victim escaped date by whisker, as he was later rescued by other officers of the Command.

Financial Business inquest revealed that the abducted officer identified as Abdullahi Mohammad Kuso, is an Inspector of Customs, attached to Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Ogun Command.

The Victim in hospital bed:

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of Ogun Customs Command, Maiwada A. A, said, “On Saturday July 7, 2018, by  0900 hours, the officers and men of Ogun Command received yet another hostility from criminals and economic saboteurs. They succeeded in abducting and inflicting life threatening injuries on an Inspector of Customs, Abdullahi Mohammad Kuso, attached to NCS Ogun Command”.

He stressed, “Full scale investigation is on-going to track those who perpetrated this barbaric and cruel act on an officer on duty.”

He warned, “We therefore sound clear warning to smugglers that Ogun Command will not relent in bringing to book economic saboteurs and criminals who often violently engage officers at various approved duty posts, to the extent of inflicting injuries on them, destroying government properties and constituting nuisance in the society”.

He stated that threat from smugglers would not deter them from carrying out their statutory functions of revenue generation for government, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations within their area of coverage.

It could be recalled that this attack is coming only few weeks after another officer with Ogun Command was violently attacked by smugglers at Idiroko, while on official duty with his colleagues.
