Comptroller Uba handing over the seized hard drugs to NDLEA officials, Lagos Command:

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ,NDLEA, Lagos Command has commended the Federal Operations Unit ,FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service ,NCS, for the massive seizure of Cannabis Sativa commonly known as Indian Hemp, weighing 1,550kg.

The Principal Staff Officer, department of Operations and Intelligent, NDLEA, Lagos Command Mr. Lawal Isiaka, made this commendation, when the Customs Area Controller ,CAC, of FOU, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, handed over the seized Indian Hemp, packed in 570 parcels and 98 big sacks, fully loaded in a truck to him.

Isiaka said, “I thank the CAC and operatives of FOU Customs for their timely intervention in seizing the large quantity of these hard drugs you see here, and preventing these offensive items from getting into wrong hands in the country. Smuggling of hard drugs is not good for the country. It increases crime rate in the society, kills the economy and disrupts the peace of the nation”.

On where the drugs are usually smuggled from, Isiaka said, “Some of these hard drugs often come from Ghana, Togo and Nigeria here, but we are not relenting in seizing them and prosecuting individuals engaging in illegal business of smuggling hard drugs. For instance, this 2018 alone, Lagos Command of NDLEA has prosecuted over 39 suspects found culpable of smuggling hard drugs into the country.”

Isiaka added, “I equally thank FOU for building strong inter-agency collaboration with NDLEA and other agencies of government. This particular case is just one out of numerous seizures of Indian Hemp recorded by FOU Customs.”

Speaking during the handing over exercise, Comptroller Uba disclosed that the 1,550kg of Cannabis Sativa seized by his Unit is the highest seizure of hard drugs recorded in the history of FOU Zone ‘A’.

In his words:The hard drugs were seized along Olorunda axis of Ogun State, based on intelligence. You all know what would have happened if this large quantity of Indian Hemp got into wrong hands undetected.  In the spirit of inter-agency collaboration, we are handing over the seized hard drugs to NDLEA for further investigation”.
