Ogun Customs seizes 276 gallons of petrol at Idiroko

The success story of Ogun State Command of Nigeria Customs service in terms of revenue generation cannot be overemphasized. What is news is that the Area Controller, Comptroller Sani Madugu and his enforcement officers have continued to be a clog in the wheels of the dare –devil smugglers, as more notable seizures have been made between December 2017 and January, 2018.
According to him, the Command seized a total of 13 vehicles, two means of conveyance, 17 motorcycles, 383 bags of foreign rice, six sacks of second hand clothing, shoes, bags and 221 gallons of vegetable oil with Duty Paid Value ,DPV, of N67,247,153.00.
Others include, 276 gallons of fuel (25 litres each gallon), nine drums and 32 kegs of kerosene.
With these huge seizures, the Area Controller said ,”We will continue to explore intelligence and surveillance in monitoring filling stations along the border areas, so as to avert any form of diversion”.
He therefore, appeals to the public, to be patriotic by virtue of giving the Command reasonable information, so as to curb the menace of smuggling petroleum products and other prohibited items into the country.
Madugu, however said that the Command current effective and transparent electronic system of auctioning seized items yielded result.
According to him, “The Command had so far released 291 vehicles to successful winners. The assessment and capturing of more seized vehicles are on- going”.
He therefore advised interested Nigerians willing to buy from the auction to log onto, e-auction portal,https://app.trade.gov.ng/auction.
In the same vein, 11,900 bags of rice, 1, 129 jerry-cans of vegetable oil and 29 gallons of palm oil were successfully evacuated from both Abeokuta and Idiroko government warehouse of the Command for onward delivery to internally Displace Peoples camp in Yobe State.
The O/C Roving of the Command, CSC Jamairi, A.M and Superintendent of Customs,Yau, alongside their team members were commended by the Comptroller- General of Customs for their hard work.
