The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has described the Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency ,NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside as an epitome of good governance.

The Minister also said that NIMASA has been able to reduce its operating cost by over 50 percent in just one year, even as the agency significantly improved revenue generation and remittance to Federal Government within the same period.

The Minister of Transport ,middle, Dr. Peterside ,left, and former House of Reps member, Asita O. Asita during Peterside’s 47th birthday celebration in Port Harcourt:

The Minister said this in Port Harcourt, River State, at the event put together by friends and associates of Dr. Peterside to mark his birthday.

The Minister asserted, “By their character, we shall know them. I remember when I was told that Dakuku will be a sell-out when we were vying for governorship under Dr. Peter Odili. Today, he is the only one remaining among those I can call my political allies. NIMASA has reduced running cost significantly and improved revenue generation to government because the man, Dakuku, is not greedy.  He is a transparent character and fits perfectly well within the common agenda of the current national government.”

The Minister also commended Peterside for the turnaround and re-engineering strategies in NIMASA, stressing that his appointment has given a facelift not just to the Agency but the maritime sector, as NIMASA now gets commendation as the highest revenue remitting Agency in the country.

Also speaking at the event, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki described Peterside as a statesman in the making, considering his antecedents in politics and public service.
